Hydrogeological characteristics of waterlogged areas in Natore District, Bangladesh

Abstract Waterlogging (WL) refers to the process by which water flow is resisted in vertical and horizontal directions thus stagnates for a short or long span of time; it induced combination human natural factors. In southwestern region Bangladesh, including Natore District, WL significant issue that needs be addressed if agricultural activity successful. This study aimed identify surface District characterise scenario area terms hydrogeology. Waterlogged areas were identified with geographic information system using satellite images corresponding premonsoon postmonsoon periods. Using groundwater level data (1990–2017), pre- scenarios waterlogged indicated seasonal perennial types WL. Groundwater recharge classified as lag times. Most was characterised thick clay silty surficial layers low penetration rates, resulting from porosity hydraulic conductivity. The cross-correlation between rainfall revealed response rainfall, time 1–5 months. Long exhibited slow fluctuation, lower conductivity values 49.37–76.24 m/day. contrast, displayed rapid small fluctuation due good proportional relationship higher 74.74–117.79
